Have you ever heard anyone tell you, you must live by the law… or by the rules of religion? I know I have and boy is it frustrating.
Now don’t get me wrong, as followers of Jesus Christ we are called to live holy lives striving to be imitators of Him. However as soon as someone starts talking about religious laws and “earning” their way to heaven I find myself tuning that person out and thanking God for the freedom He has given me in the finished work of the cross.
My personal relationship with Jesus Christ is what I focus on, therefore the LAW I live by is one that we grew up with in my family. We know the “LAW” as an acronym for LOVE, ALWAYS, WINS.
Now that may seem like a hard pill to swallow but in reality, love is a very powerful tool that can move mountains. Think about how much God loves us, so much that He sent His only son to die on the cross and pay the ultimate price for us. What greater love is there?
Maybe you can relate, for me loving someone comes easily but when it becomes a challenge is when that love is put to the test. When someone I love hurts me what should I do… stop loving them and forget they ever existed? No, it’s not always easy but I continue to love them and pray for them, because I know love always wins.
Honestly I was faced with similar questions this week, was I going to forgive my friend even though she never apologized, was I going to stop loving her because she hurt me, was it just easier to forget our friendship. Of course it may seem easier but I remembered love does not keep a record of wrongs… it just doesn’t, it is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. Now that doesn’t mean that I will allow this person to continually hurt me and my family but it does mean, we will move on, we will pray for her, we will be hopeful for her, and we will never give up on her. We will always love her.
What about you? Can you live by the LAW?
